Known for its art, nightlife and shopping offerings, Wynwood provides many opportunities to explore the best of Miami. Also known as the Wynwood Arts District, much of the area’s offerings are centered around art and design, and you’ll undoubtedly end your day feeling inspired. To help you plan your day in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, here are some suggestions.
Shop
Shopping in Miami is a great way to spend the afternoon, especially in Wynwood where you’ll find loads of boutiques. While Austin Burke of Florida sells high-end menswear clothing, Moooi is a must-visit for design junkies. Elemental sells inspiring design pieces from around the world, and Plant The Future is all about terrariums, gardens, flowers and cacti. If you’re into bargain hunting (and giving back!), Give Good Works is a thrift store selling stuff for charity. These are just a few of the many great shops to check out in Wynwood.
The Wywood Walls
No trip to Wynwood would be complete without visiting the Wynwood Walls, a park complex covered in inspiring graffiti done by internationally renowned street artists. Murals and exhibits are thought-provoking and will undoubtedly leave you feeling something when you leave. Beyond Wywood Walls you can also find public art by peeking down the various alleyways in Wynwood. Additionally, on the second Saturday of each month you can visit during the neighborhood’s regularly-scheduled art walk.
Get creative
In Wynwood there’s no shortage of creative spaces. Head to Art Center Miami for art events, workshops and exhibitions showcasing contemporary and fine works. At Britto Central you can see fine art and sculpture done with expert precision. Some other worthwhile spaces include A. Dale Nally Studio, Nahila Campos Studio, TheSTUDIO by H. Xhixha and Platabanda/Paul Amundarain Studio. If you’re interested in seeing a performance, the Miami Light project hosts film, dance and thought-provoking plays you won’t find on mainstream stages. Wynwood often blend’s together with Miami’s Design District and Midtown — although technically it’s separate — both creative extensions if you’d like to continue exploring.
Take a tour
A Miami Art Tour: Design District, Midtown and Wynwood makes for a memorable trip experience, especially as you can explore three neighborhoods in one. During the excursion you’ll visit a number of galleries and creative spaces, as well as learn about local art heritage from a knowledgeable guide. Some highlights include the Margulies Collection at the Warehouse, the de la Cruz Collection Contemporary Art Space, and the Rubell Family Collection.
